My Story

Hi! My name is Sharon Daniel or Mrs. Sharon as my students call me.  I have been teaching for over 30 years, and teaching is more than just a job for me. It is my calling!   I have a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in English.  During my career as a classroom teacher, I had the opportunity to teach students on the elementary, middle school, and high school levels.   My professional experience teaching students from K5 through 12th grade has uniquely qualified me to successfully tutor students on any grade level.

In a world where a student’s academic ability is often measured by his or her scores on a standardized test, as a private tutor I have the opportunity to look beyond the test scores and really get to know my students.   In every session as I engage with a student in the learning process, I watch how that student learns.  As I talk with my students and observe how they read, solve problems, process information, and express themselves, I begin to discover both their academic strengths and the areas where they have weaknesses and need academic support.  This allows me to create individualized lessons that will be interesting for my students and meet their academic needs.

I firmly believe that learning should not be boring.  Concepts can and should be taught in creative and interesting ways. Students should learn by reading, exploring, discovering, asking questions, discussing, experimenting, and, whenever possible, by playing a game!  

I love teaching!  Those moments when I see a flash of understanding or a confident smile or hear a laugh of triumph as they beat me in a learning game or ask me a question because they are curious to learn even more, well, those are the moments that make my job worthwhile.
