Private Tutoring Sessions
Elementary Math
$52 per session. Minimum of 4 sessions required.
Parents, have you noticed that today’s math is not what math used to be? Today students are often confused because they are being taught multiple strategies to solve math problems. They often do not have the opportunity to practice and master one math strategy before they are required to learn a new one. As a result many students become frustrated and lose confidence in their ability to understand math.
At Daniel Tutoring our first goal is a thorough understanding of traditional math. Mrs. Sharon uses puppets, math manipulatives, and concrete objects and visuals to help elementary students understand and master the fundamental concepts necessary for success in math.
The next step is practice, and at Daniel Tutoring math practice is fun! Students play a variety of unique math games that are designed to help them become confident and successful in math. As they play these games using traditional math and begin to consistently find the correct answers, their confidence is restored.
Students are then able to approach the other math strategies with renewed confidence because they actually understand math.
Beginning Reading and Phonics
$52 per session. Minimum of 4 sessions required.
Learning to read should be a fun and exciting experience. Phonics and reading instruction must be interesting so young students become eager to read. At Daniel Tutoring phonics instruction moves beyond phonics charts and worksheets. Young students learn and practice phonics by playing a wide variety of fun games.
Younger students also have a lot of fun reading with Charlie Bear. Mrs. Sharon and Charlie Bear have been a team for many years. Together they have taught hundreds of children how to read and introduced them to the magic of a good story. Mrs. Sharon’s unique stories about Charlie and his friends build phonetically and allow students to practice reading in a fun and exciting way by meeting and interacting with the characters in the stories. Charlie Bear and his friends are a unique, important part of Daniel Tutoring’s beginning reading program. Students can’t wait to come to tutoring each week to read with Charlie Bear!
Creative Writing and Illustrating
$52 per session. Minimum of 4 sessions required.
In Daniel Tutoring’s creative writing sessions, students learn to plan, write, edit, and proof their own stories. Students can choose to write from a picture prompt, use story cubes, write short stories, or even write, illustrate, and publish their own book! In these sessions students learn the following elements of a good story:
Plot and Structure
Setting
Point of View
Characterization
Conflict
Crisis
Resolution
Students also learn how to vary their sentence structure and use correct grammar and punctuation.
Intermediate Reading
Older students continue to build their understanding of phonics while improving their reading fluency and comprehension.
At Daniel Tutoring students are not just reading a random text that has been chosen for them. Instead students are encouraged to participate by choosing topics and books that interest them. When students are given this choice, they become much more engaged and excited about the reading process because they are reading for a purpose. They begin to understand that reading allows them to discover, to explore, and to find answers to their questions. They learn to be curious, to participate in discussions, and to share their own opinions.
Reading skills and phonics are further reinforced through a variety of activities and fun games that are designed to build each student’s confidence in his or her reading ability.
$52 per session. Minimum of 4 sessions required.
